After Purchasing one of our Dreamweaver website templates:

You will receive an email with a URL created specifically for your download. If you paid with credit card, you should receive your template within minutes. Download your .zip file -- noting the directory/ folder you are sending it to. Unzip using Winzip or StuffIt.

Define Your Site

Before you begin work on your website, we recommend you save all your files in a backup folder on your hard drive so you will have the original file to install again in the event you need it.

We recommend reading the "readme.txt" that came with your template. Use the template package to create a new site or add template files to an existing site.

Define your site in Dreamweaver. Open Dreamweaver. Using Dropdownmenu for "Site"> New Site. Browse to the folder you created when you unzipped your files. The "site name" can be anything you wish -- something descriptive to you. See illustration to right.

The template package you installed contains a .dwt file located in the Templates folder. Create new pages from the Dreamweaver templates (the .dwt files), modify sample pages (.htm files) with your own content, or reformat existing HTML pages in a site by applying a template to them. For template packages making use of the library items, do a "save as" with one of the sample pages, giving it a new name to match your site, and then add your content.

TO CHANGE THE BUTTONS, COMPANY NAME, ETC
Do not launch Fireworks with the Edit button in Dreamweaver. The best way to open the PNG for editing is to click on the PNG from Dreamweaver. When you make changes, it is IMPORTANT TO : EXPORT SLICES ONLY. If you export the entire table from Fireworks, you risk overwriting the template table design. Fireworks will warn you if you forget.

FONTS:
If the font used to create the template is not installed on your machine, Fireworks will prompt you to choose a font you do have.

IF YOU CHANGE A FONT:
As the spacing of every font is different -- on rare occasions you may have to readjust the slices by a few pixels. This is done once the slices are back in Dreamweaver. Highlight the squashed or stretched slices/ and use the "RESET SIZE" on the menu. See illustration above. If you change the font or words on navigation, be sure to change them on layer 2, for the rollovers.

Template File (.dwt)
Most well-designed websites have areas that are repeated from page to page. These include header areas, navigation bars, information boxes, footers, etc. Dreamweaver template feature makes changes simple and immediate site-wide.

Library Item Several areas of the sample .htm pages may contain Dreamweaver library items. These areas are usually the footer and other repeating areas. You may continue to use these, altering them to reflect your information, or delete them entirely. Open the library items either by double clicking on the name of the library item in the site files list, or by using the assets panel. Make the text changes, save, and the changes now appear on all pages. See our tutorials for more information on using libraries.

Image Files
The template package also includes placeholder images for any items you will need to customize in your graphics program, such as the navigation or company name images.

Some images in the template package are free placeholder royalty free images - - easily changed to an image of your choice. To maintain the the layout, you should use the same pixel dimensions as the originals, unless you are an advanced user. For more information on image usage and copyrights, consult the terms of use.

You can edit the graphics in nearly any graphics program. The image folder contains a set of buttons and logo and page header files. The name and navigation samples on the pages have been used for display purposes and you may change to any font or color of your choice and add any special effects you desire, such as drop shadow or beveling.

Additional Information
Complete instructions for modifying a template can be found at the Adobe site. Read them thoroughly and print if you find it helpful. Their tutorials are excellent.
