A template has two types of regions: editable and locked (non-editable). Dreamweaver editable regions are the sections of a template that have changing content, such as a newsletter or home page newsletter.

Locked regions are the sections of a template that have static, unchanging content, such as a logo or a standard site navigation bar.

On most Lynda templates, the main section of the page for your content is called "main" and it is an EDITABLE AREA.. Insert your page content here.

Your can type it in, or if copying from an older web your are updating, we suggest pasting the text first in notepad to remove formatting such as .css styles. Putting in "clean" unformatted text will save your the headache of removing it later. Use the Style selector in the Properties menu to choose the .css style.

tO CHANGE BOTH EDITABLE AND LOCKED REGIONS

When you edit a template (a .dwt file), you can make changes to both the editable and locked regions. You can also create new editable regions, or lock editable regions. The editable and locked regions are highlighted in the template.

When you edit an. htm page that has a template applied to it you can make changes to the editable regions only. The locked regions are highlighted, indicating that you cannot change these areas -- unless you unlock them by opening the .dwt. You unlock them by using the dropdown menu shown to the left.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON CHANGING SLICE SIZES:
REMEMBER THAT IF YOU CHANGE THE SIZE OF A "SLICE", WHICH USUALLY HAPPENS AS A RESULT OF CHANGING THE TEXT LINK TO A LONGER OR SHORTER WORD, YOU WILL "export images only" from Fireworks. Once back in Dreamweaver, be sure to put your cursor over the slice that has changed size. From Properties bar, "reset size" to make it fit within the table properly. If not done, the link in question will look squashed or stretched--the table will not fit properly
